Individual vineyard lots of Merlot and Syrah were fermented separately and barrel aged in a combination of French and American oak for up to 12 months. The resulting wine is bursting with ripe black cherry and plum with notes of caramel, coffee and smoke. A balance of plush fruit and powdery tannins in the mid-palate lead into a long, lingering finish with notes of Bing cherry and spice.
The fruit for this Red Blend is grown at our acclaimed Spice Cabinet and Dead Canyon vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. The fruit is exposed to dappled sunlight, allowing for uniform ripening and flavor development. Well balanced crop levels have allowed us to create wine with great depth and concentration
2014 was one of our the hottest years on record. A moderate winter led into a warm spring and very hot summer. The warm spring resulted in an early bloom which caused verasion to occur earlier than normal. A warm, dry September allowed for longer hang time of the grapes which contributed to concentrated flavor development along with ripe tannins.
